How can I lose weight
How many times have you looked in the mirror and asked that question? How many times have you been out clothes shopping and thought to yourself, “How can I lose 10 lbs?” Or 15, or 20?
How many times have you thought that life would be better if you just weighed less than you do now? Probably plenty. Probably every day. Just like me. And just like, according to the World Health Organization, the 1 billion people in the world who are like you and I. Overweight. Fat. Obese.
Damn I hate that word. Obese. I much prefer fat to obese.
It is all about what we eat. Complex carbs give way to foods high in fat, and sugar. Sugar, sugar, sugar. In 1975 William Duffy wrote “Sugar Blues”. It is an interesting book in that Duffy writes that sugar is an addictive drug, and that the sugar industry conspires to keep us all addicted to it.
Any of us who have tried to kick refined sugar, high fructose sugar, lactose, glucose, anything in the ingredients of your favorite food ending in -ose is most likely a sugar. And that really sucks. Because carbohydrates break down into sugars in your body. So what does this mean?
We can eat high protein, and go crazy from the cravings. We can eat low fat, high carb and still gain weight because we are really eating sugars. And why is that? Because our body can only store about 300 grams of carbs in one of two places, our muscles, or our liver. Anything above that is turned into fat. When we eat a diet high in carbs our body produces high levels of insulin to convert the carbs to sugar and then it is stored as fat. Nice huh?
So, again, what the hell are we supposed to do?
Eat protein low in fats. Eat fewer carbs. Stay away from sugar. In all of its forms. And finally exercise. Move you body to burn up what you already have excess of. That and only that is the way to lose weight and stay healthy.
Namaste.
