Let’s review what we have learned up to this point.

We eat more when we are in social situations. We go to food when we are depressed, or unhappy. Our genetics work against us, along with our environment. If our parents were heavy, we are more likely to be heavy. If our family didn’t pay attention to the types of foods that they ate, we are not likely to either. That all leads to weight gain, as opposed to weight loss.

So what can we eat? We know that carbohydrates break down into glucose in our bodies. That the body stores glucose in the liver, and in our muscles. We have learned that the body can only store 300 grams of glucose before it starts storing the glucose as fat. I have learned, from my own experience, that the Atkins diet can be very effective but that the privations involved in it lead to bingeing on foods that are not allowed such as breads and sweets.

That leads us to where we are right now. What can we eat? We can eat foods that have a low on the glycemic index. Foods that take longer to break down in your body. Whole grain breads, brown rice, lean meat, and fruits. And of course they have to be eaten in moderation. That is our by word now, moderation. Remember that we have to take in fewer calories than what we are expending. That is the only way we are going to lose weight and not feel like a weirdo.

Namaste.
